MASTERS IN AQUACULTURE AND FISHERIES

The application period for the Masters in Aquaculture and Fisheries course for the academic year 2004/2005 will be from 1/05/2004 to 15/06/2004.


Candidates include students with undergraduate degrees from a wide variety of areas including biology, ecology, aquaculture, fisheries, living resources, conservation and biotechnology who wish to pursue higher studies in aquaculture and fisheries.

The course will also be targeting managers or directors of fishing or aquaculture companies interested in being brought up to date with the latest information and techniques and who would like to take some of the courses without obtaining a degree.

The Masters in Aquaculture and Fisheries of the Universidade do Algarve will function within the framework of the International Masters in Aquaculture and Fisheries (http://allserv.rug.ac.be/aquaculture/EU-MSC/geninfo.html, eu-msc poster1.ppt ), coordenated by Ghent University (Belgium). O consortium includes: Wageningen University (Holland), University College Cork (Irland), University of Warmia & Mazury (Polond), University of Bergen (Norway) and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

* Students enrolled in the Universidade do Algarve may obtain the European Masters Degree by taking at least 25% of the course credits in one or more of the other above mentioned universities.
* Student mobility will be supported by the SOCRATES programme.

Applications - Applications should be submitted to the Coordinator of the Masters degree either personally or by registered mail within the deadline defined in point 1 above:

The letter of application should contain the following information:

Identification - complete name, name of parents, date and place of birth, national identity card information (number, date and place of emission), current address, postal code and telephone number, current employment and place of employment, university degree(s) and respective final grade(s) or classification(s).

In addition the following documentation is required:
Photocopy of the identity card;
Photocopies of university transcripts;
Detailed Curriculum vitae;
Proof of current employment position or situation;
An essay (1 page maximum) explaining why you chose this MSc course, what your area(s) of interest are and what your perspectives are for the future.
A complete list of the above required documentation should be enclosed.


Registration will take place in the Post-Graduate Division of the Academic Services of the Universidade do Algarve from 13 of September to 1 of October of 2004.


Registration fee: 100 ?
The total tuition fee is 2.500 ? distributed in the following manner:

1º semestre: 1000?
2º semestre: 1000?
3º semestre: 500?

Minimum number of students for the course to function is 15.

1º e 2º semester: courses
3º semester: thesis


Teaching schedule:
Monday - Friday: 9h - 18h
(Exceptionally Saturday)
