26 March 2004

Member States of EMBL (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom) are advised that applications are being sought for the following position at EMBL Heidelberg, Germany

Postdoctoral Position

Grade: EMBL Fellowship grant

Duty Station: Heidelberg, Germany

Commencing Date: To be arranged

Job Description: The group of Dr. Karsenti is presently working on the regulation of microtubule nucleation and dynamics during the interphase to mitotic transition. There seems to be a network of interacting regulatory molecules involved in this process and the laboratory is engaged in the analysis of this network and of its dynamics during cell cycle.

The work will involve the development of methods to analyze how various molecules cooperate to determine precisely the status of microtubule dynamics and nucleation in vivo, in vitro and in cell extracts. The role of protein phosphorylation in such processes may also be examined. It is also planned to examine the nature of molecular interaction networks in these processes using FRET and other sophisticated light microscopy methods.

The applicant will work in a team with other colleagues within the group but this may also involve interaction with other groups at EMBL.

Qualifications and Experience: Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent and experience in molecular biology and biochemistry as well as in quantitative light microscopy techniques. A strong background in physics would be an advantage.

Contract: Initially a contract of one year shall be offered to the successful candidate.

Closing date: 15 May 2004
