School of Civil Engineering and the Environment
University of Southampton
The School of Civil Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton is a world class centre of research excellence, awarded the highest grade (5*) in UK's last Research Assessment Exercise.
We are internationally recognised for focusing on and carrying out challenging, innovative, industry-relevant cutting-edge research. As a result, we are very successful in attracting substantial funding from industry, UK Research Councils, government organisations and the EU, as shown by our annual research turnover (in excess of £3M) and the value of research grants currently active (£6M).
The research activity of the School encompasses all areas of Civil and Environmental Engineering, including:
Infrastructure (Geomechanics, Waste Management, Structures, Coastal and Offshore Engineering)
Hydraulics (Coastal and Offshore Hydrodynamics, Wavepower, Irrigation Hydraulics)
Environment (Sustainable Energy, Pollution Control, Waste and Wastewater Engineering)
Transportation (Intelligent Transport Systems, Traffic Control and Management, Traffic Modelling and Evaluation).
Further details of current research projects can be found at our web site, http://www.civil.soton.ac.uk
