PhD studentship in analysis of brain signals

Department of Engineering
A 3-year studentship covering tuition fees and annual stipend (12000 GBP per annum) is available to British citizens holding (or expecting to have) a degree in areas related to neuroscience (biology) or signal analysis (physics, mathematics, engineering, computer sciences). The starting date is September 2004.
The research project will be carried out with Dr. Rodrigo Quian Quiroga at the Dept. of Engineering, University of Leicester ( www.le.ac.uk/engineering) in collaboration with other clinical and research centers in Europe. Its focus is the analysis of brain evoked potentials (electroencephalographic responses to stimulation), with emphasis on the development of new methods of analysis and their application to the study of different cognitive processes and pathologies.

The candidate is expected to have a strong interest in neurophysiology and in signal analysis (especially wavelets). Previous experience in these fields is desired, but not necessary. Experience with programming in matlab is highly desired.

The closing date for applications is the 16th of August, 2004.

For further details and informal discussion contact Dr. Rodrigo Quian Quiroga ( rodri@vis.caltech.edu) and see: http://www.le.ac.uk/eg/fss1/DTA_2004/DTA_RQQ.htm or www.vis.caltech.edu/~rodri
