A Postdoctoral Research Associate is required to work on a project funded by the European Vigilance Network for the Management of Antiviral Drug Resistance. The Project will involve computational approaches to the study of the antigenic and genetic evolution of influenza virus, and the within-host dynamics of influenza infection. The project is based in Cambridge, with supervision in the Zoology Department. Collaborative periods will be spent at the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Candidates should have a PhD in computer science or computational biology. A strong background in computer science, mathematics, computer programming, and biology is required. Ideally this will include research in the following areas: search in high-dimensional spaces; fitness landscapes; artificial evolution; optimization, and building evolutionary models and/or computational models. The candidate will need exceptionally strong programming skills, preferably developed in a UNIX environment, and with experience in several of the following languages: lisp, Tcl/Tk, C, and perl; and will also need experience with the preparation and packaging of high quality software for widespread distribution, and with user interface design and construction.

Salary will be on the RA1A scale (£18,893– £28,279 pa). The appointment will be for up to fourteen months, subject to satisfactory completion of a six month probationary period. Two written references will be required.
