Position Description: Director, Little Cayman Research Centre Reports To: President, CCMI Position Location: Little Cayman

Summary:
CCMI seeks to hire a Director for the new Little Cayman Research Centre
(LCRC) who will provide overall management of the facilities, personnel, and programs. As the facility is being completed (completion of 2 main buildings May 2005) the Director will join the Building Development Committee as Chairman and will ensure that building is on schedule on budget and according to plan. The Director will ensure that the LCRC operations are consistent with CCMI's mission to promote the long-term conservation and sustainability of reefs and will implement the organization's strategic plan to become a leader in coral reef sustainability and research, education, and community outreach across the Caribbean region. The Director will be skilled at grant writing to continue to obtain financial resources for the operations and capital development of the LCRC, develop budgets and maintain all books, manage risk, and develop operational manual to include plans, policies and procedures.

The Director will develop strong working relationships for the organization with stakeholders concerned with marine conservation in the Caribbean especially including local governments, fishermen and other public and private entities as appropriate. Until the facility is fully functioning, the Director will have the temporary additional responsibility of providing logistical support for current programs and upcoming projects.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in marine science, oceanography, coral reef systems or MSc with a minimum of 3 years of management, research and NGO experience. History of successful funding. Excellent project management skills, experience in the following areas: vessel and dive operations, formal and/or informal education and risk management. Excellent computer, presentation and communications, organizational and leadership skills are required. The individual we seek is a versatile, creative and entrepreneurial individual who can manage, maintain, and promote the new facility. The Director will be capable of becoming well-networked into the regional and cross-cutting marine conservation and sustainability issues and will be capable of proposing regional and site-based strategies to prevent or abate threats and encourage education. He/she will need to be able to live on a small remote island.

Start Date: September 2004.

Contract Term: 1 Year renewable.

The Central Caribbean Marine Institute (CCMI) is a U.S. 501 c 3 not-for-profit organization with Cayman Islands and UK Charity status working to conduct and facilitate research, education, and outreach that will sustain marine biodiversity for future generations. The Little Cayman Research Centre is a facility being built by CCMI with an anticipated completion date of June 2005.
