PhD project studentship

“Gene-environment interactions, susceptibility to reactive oxygen species and male infertility”
Centre for Environmental and Occupational Health

One three year PhD studentship is available from October 2004 as part of a collaborative between the Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health and the Department of Reproductive Medicine St Mary’s Hospital. This studentship is funded by an endowment and is part of a new initiative taken by the Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health.

The studentship is entitled “Gene-environment interactions, susceptibility to reactive oxygen species and male infertility”. This study is designed to identify environmental influences on male infertility. The particular focus of this studentship is to examine the role of reactive oxygen species in male infertility, to identify those occupational and environmental factors associated with exposure to reactive oxygen species and also the genetic factors that may alter susceptibility to this exposure.

Candidates should have or expect to gain a 1st class or 2.1 honours degree in an appropriate subject. The studentship will cover tuition fees and a maintenance grant. Funding is limited to students who are classified as home/EU for fees purposes.
