Academic-Related Research Staff Grade Ib: Salary £19,460 - £24,820 P.A.: Applications are invited for a post-graduate research assistant to work on a project entitled the Long Range Haplotype and Sequence Analysis on a DNA Chip. The project is an extension of work already being undertaken in the group of Dr Kalim Mir, which involves the use of single molecule technologies for genomic studies. The person appointed should have a strong knowledge in at least one of the following areas: molecular biology, microscopy, instrumentation design and programming. They should also have an interest in nanotechnology and human genetics/genomics with a desire and willingness to acquire and develop their skills and knowledge in these areas. He/she will be involved in their own hands-on research within the context of an overall team and will contribute to instrumentation set-up and the day-to-day running and maintenance. The successful candidate should have a BSc degree or MSc or equivalent in a scientific/engineering subject and at least one years experience in one of the above techniques. They should also be highly motivated and adaptable with a willingness to tackle a variety of tasks to help the group compete effectively in an emerging research area. The position is available for 18 months in the first instance and is funded by the Wellcome Trust.
