SENIOR ZOOLOGIST for The Nature Conservancy's Montana Natural Heritage Program

to lead the development of information on Montana's fauna, emphasizing Species of Concern. Primary duties include designing, conducting and securing support for inventory and applied research on priority species and habitats; coordinating the process of species status ranking; collecting and managing biological data in tabular and spatial formats; contributing to conservation and management planning; building collaboration among agencies, biologists and data contributors; developing reports and other information products; and providing expertise to resource
managers and decision-makers. A full position description can be viewed
at: (URL: http://nhp.nris.state.mt.us/employ). Requirements: Minimum Master's degree and four years of progressively responsible experience or equivalent. Working knowledge of the fauna of Montana and their habitats, with demonstrated proficiency in field inventory, monitoring, research design and sampling methods. Demonstrated ability to analyze and apply wildlife data to conservation and management, including experience with statistical analysis, spatial and relational data, habitat modeling, and adaptive management. Ability to build effective partnerships and strong interpersonal communication skills; ability to work independently and as a team member/leader. Demonstrated proficiency in program development and management, including planning, budgeting expense tracking, supervision, and meeting project deadlines. Success securing funding for projects, preferably from a variety of sources. Willingness to travel extensively, especially during the field season, and to conduct long days of strenuous fieldwork, often under adverse conditions.
