JOB DUTIES:
The Department of Natural Resources, Landscape and Watershed Analysis Division, is currently accepting applications for an environmental Data Processing Programmer Analyst, Advanced. This position is located in our Annapolis, MD headquarters office and is responsible for developing geographic information systems (GIS) applications and other computer based landscape targeting and assessment tools for ecosystem conservation and restoration. This position integrates principles of landscape and systems ecology into major statewide and multi-state efforts aimed at supporting strategic, cost-effective and science-based decisions related to conservation and restoration. Duties include the design and development of GIS applications, large database management and analysis, programming, synthesis of technical information for a wide variety of audiences (ranging from general public to highly technical) and presentation of products at conferences and meetings. Technical expertise in lan! dscape ecology, conservation biology and ecological modeling methods is critical. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or other information technology-related field to include coursework in systems analysis and applications programming using third generation or other generally accepted computer programming languages.
Experience:
Two years of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining applications systems and programs using third generation or other generally accepted computer programming languages.
Notes:
Thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or other information technology-related field to include coursework in systems analysis and applications programming using third generation or other generally accepted computer programming languages may be substituted for the required education.
An additional year of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining applications systems and programs using third generation or other generally accepted computer programming languages may be substituted for the required education.
Experience operating multipurpose, multi-tasking computer systems; or scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining a tape library to process data on multipurpose, multi-tasking computer systems; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining microcomputer hardware and software; or converting data from project specifications by developing program code using third generation or other generally accepted computer programming languages may be substituted for high school on a year-for-year basis. SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's or graduate level degree must include 15 credit hours in any of the following course areas: natural resources management, ecological modeling, conservation biology, general ecology, community, landscape and/or ecosystems ecology, restoration ecology, water quality management, wildlife biology, environmental science, natural science OR two years experience managing natural resource related projects.
