Job Description - Essential Functions
[1] Manage the physical resources (structures, wells, etc.) and ecological quality (prairie, creek, and other ecosystems) of Allwine Prairie Preserve. [2] Maintain truck, tractor, and other equipment; maintain grounds and headquarters building, including routine mowing, snow removal; monitor property for trespassers; conduct environmental monitoring, noxious weed control, mowing and other programs. [3] Manage and coordinate controlled burning activities ( i.e., prepare burn plans, obtain required permits, and coordinate with Fire Chief and volunteer burn crews). [4] Supervise part-time employees and volunteers. Job Description - Additional Duties [1] Manage and promote the educational use of the preserve by coordinating educational activities (formal and informal) at the preserve. Coordinate use of site with researchers, classes, and community. [2] Support restoration, expansion, and any other efforts conducted at Allwine Prairie Preserve and associated research and teaching sites.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree (biology, wildlife/range management, agronomy, or other appropriate ecologically-relevant specialty). Must hold or be able to obtain the following certifications: basic, intermediate, and advanced prescribed fire training; pesticide application license; ability to operate GIS/GPS systems. Operate necessary equipment to maintain grounds (eg tractor and other mowers). Preferred Qualifications Masters degree (biology, agronomy, wildlife/range management, or other appropriate ecologically-relevant specialty), experienced manager.
