The Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans, CEDO, is a dynamic, intercultural, multi-disciplinary research, conservation, and education center located in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, Mexico.
We seek a highly self-motivated, enthusiastic, and bilingual individual with a strong commitment to CEDO´s mission, to take a leadership role to coordinate and further develop CEDO´s diverse education programs at Puerto Peñasco, Sonora.
A successful applicant will enjoy living in a bicultural environment in a developing country, capable of multi-tasking, improvising, and working creatively with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. The applicant should be an excellent communicator, enjoy teaching at different levels, and have some practical experience in classroom and field settings.
Desirable formal education background would include (but not limited to) a graduate degree in biological, environmental, conservation, natural resources management, education, or environmental social sciences.
Principal Responsibilities:
1) Help develop and carry out a bilingual public education program on
marine and desert ecosystems and conservation that includes: lectures, demonstrations, hands-on activities, eco-adventures, and participation in research programs.
2) Help develop and present educational programs for resident school
groups at the CEDO field station and for Puerto Peñasco schools including onsite activities, field trips, and involvement in research programs.
3) Develop and coordinate a volunteer program with U.S. residents at
Puerto Peñasco to support educational and other CEDO activities.
4) Assist in development of educational materials to support all
teaching programs including books, newsletters, exhibits, and web page.
5) Maintain library collection in order, incorporate new materials and
oversee its use.
6) Develop promotional materials and signage for use onsite and in town.
7) Assist in fund raising and grant writing to support the educational
programs at CEDO.
This is considered a core long-term leadership position for CEDO. Contracts will be developed annually according to job performance and funding availability.
The salary range for this position is commensurate with qualifications. The position will be open until the position is filled.
