MARINE MAMMAL BIOLOGIST

Location: Geo-Marine, Inc., Dallas, Texas
Announcement: Geo-Marine, Inc., an environmental and engineering consulting firm, is seeking an experienced marine mammal biologist for its Dallas, Texas office. The successful candidate will contribute their expertise to the existing Marine Sciences teams in Dallas and in Newport News, Virginia. Projects include, but are not limited to, marine resources, environmental, and biological assessments in support of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Endangered Species Act, and the Marine Mammal Protection Act. Excellent writing and communication skills are a must, as is the ability to complete assignments in a timely manner. Previous working experience with consulting firms and marine mammals in the North Pacific Ocean are a plus, as are project management skills.
Responsibilities:
Research and identify, acquire, and synthesize marine mammal literature and data, as well as assist in interpretation of marine mammal seasonal occurrence patterns;
Communicate with scientists in government agencies, academia, and industry;
Act as a team leader/principal investigator with responsibility for specific project/subject areas;
Prepare and give presentations to clients, colleagues, or at scientific or military meetings;
Participate in project team meetings and attend meetings with third parties/clients as required;
Travel to client locations, project sites, symposia and other meetings, and other GMI offices, as required; and
Collect marine field data on occasion as required by projects.

Qualifications: B.S. or M.S. in marine mammalogy or a related discipline (or equivalent experience). Experience working for or interfacing with government agencies (DOD-Navy, Air Force; DOI-USFWS, MMS, NOAA/NMFS) is a plus. Consulting experience is preferred, but not required. A candidate having experience with DISTANCE, ESRI GIS, SAS, and/or EndNote software, marine mammal monitoring, and working knowledge of marine regulations/legislation (i.e., NEPA) will have an advantage.
Demonstrated writing ability is required. Interested parties should submit a scientific writing example (sole author preferred, but first author designation is also acceptable) with their resume.
