The Northcoast Marine Mammal Center in Crescent City, CA seeks applicants for a summer internship working with stranded pinnipeds. The NMMC rescues 40-60 animals per year and is situated in a small but scenic community. The internship will begin in April and last no less than 6 weeks and no longer than 12 weeks. Exact start and end dates will be flexible to meet the chosen interns travel needs. This is an unpaid position and the intern will be responsible for all travel and housing expenses.
Description:
The internship is designed to give exceptional hands-on experience with pinnipeds in a rehab facility setting including Pacific harbor seals, California sea lions and Northern fur seals. The NMMC also rescues stranded small cetaceans. The intern will take on a team leadership role among 40-50 volunteers and will be directly responsible to the Director. Interns will be involved in all aspects from rescues, transports, veterinary procedures, rehabilitation, release and public outreach.
Qualifications:
The internship is open for all to apply but undergraduates, veterinary students and recent graduates are especially invited to apply.
