UNDERGRADUATE SUMMER FIELD COURSE (JULY 17-29, 2005):

Monteregian Flora - BIOL 240, McGill University Summer Studies. A 3-credit, university-level course in the Faculty of Science. The primary goal of the course is to teach recognition of the common woody and herbaceous plants in the St. Lawrence River Valley at the northern edge of the deciduous forest biome. The course will be taught at the Gault Nature Reserve (http://www.mcgill.ca/gault), near Montreal, Quebec, Canada. This is the largest remaining tract of the primeval forests of the St. Lawrence Plain. The site has a wide variety of habitats, rugged and diverse topography, and an exceptionally rich flora. Students live in small, chalet-style dormitories. There is a residence fee of $350 Cdn (~$285 US). Tuition fees depend on your residency and student status -- to review fees and/or register consult McGill Summer Studies: (http://www.mcgill.ca/Summer/). Note that the course happens midway between the Montreal Jazz Festival (June 30-July 10) and the INTECOL-ESA Congress (August 7-12); for a modest extra cost, it is possible to live at the reserve before or after the course. If you are signing up for the course, contact Professor Martin Lechowicz to discuss logistic arrangements and details: (Martin.Lechowicz@mcgill.ca). Images &
