Field and Lab Technician

Applications are being accepted for a full-time technician to work on the second year of a project funded by Sea Grant. This position has an OPS classification and is located at the Marine Lab of Florida State University down on the coast in St. Teresa. The position would begin May 3, 2005 or when a suitable candidate is found, and is contingent upon funds being received from the Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium by Florida State University. The project funding runs until 31 January 2006. Minimum educational requirement is a B.S. degree in the Biological or related Sciences; an M.S. degree would be preferred. Salary range is $12 to $20 per hour depending on experience. Candidates should have some experience working in the laboratory and field and be in good physical condition. The ability to work independently and learn new procedures and techniques is an important component of the position. The project is concerned with the effects of nutrient enrichment on benthic
microalgae and their importance in food webs of seagrass beds. The candidate will be expected to assist in all field collections and to prepare the various samples collected for analysis. Other duties include entering data on spread sheets and to maintain the lab and equipment in good working order. Interested candidates should contact Dr. Michael J.
