Local Arabidopsis populations show a wide variety in genetically determined characters that include flowering time and growth rate. This project will identify the genes underlying this variation, using a combination of candidate gene approaches and isolation of quantitative trait loci, and examine their effects on fitness under controlled conditions, in the field and from allele frequencies in natural populations. The project forms part of the research groups wider interests in evolution and development within the recently refurbished Institute of Molecular Plant Sciences
The research assistant will be primarily responsible for genetic analysis, including maintaining genetic lines, carrying out crosses and high-throughput phenotype and genotype analysis, but will also be expected to take on individual sub-projects. Experience of plant genetics, preferably with Arabidopsis, and of SNP genotyping will be an advantage.
