The Jesse Jones College of Science, Engineering and Technology at Murray State University seeks applicants for the Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences. The Chair position is a full-time twelve-month tenure-track position that begins July 1, 2014.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Biology or closely-related discipline. Documented evidence of excellence in teaching, research productivity, and service accomplishments sufficient to merit appointment at the rank of associate or full professor is required. Evidence of successful administrative or leadership experiences is required. Strong written and verbal communication skills, effective interpersonal skills, and excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching are required. Experience developing and promoting undergraduate and graduate research is preferred.
Responsibilities: Lead the department in strategic and long-term planning; promote and support department and faculty goals; manage day-to-day departmental activities involving faculty, students, and budget. The position includes evaluation of faculty performance; coordination of student recruitment, advising, and retention; promotion of development and outreach activities; oversight of laboratory and curricular development; departmental program assessment; and scheduling of classes and teaching assignments.
