Postdoc in biochemistry (UK)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the laboratory of Dr Christian Speck in the Institute of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine at the Hammersmith Campus of Imperial College London
(http://www.specklab.com/).

Funded by the Wellcome Trust, we are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to join a group of multi-disciplinary colleagues and collaborators to investigate fundamental biological mechanisms in eukaryotic DNA replication using innovative biochemical approaches.

A vital property of all living things is the ability to replicate their DNA, allowing cells to pass on their genetic material from parent to progeny. The successful candidate will address two crucial
questions in eukaryotic DNA replication: how the replicative helicase becomes loaded onto DNA and how it becomes activated for DNA synthesis.

This post is suited to a highly motivated postdoc who is keen to work as part of a team to address fundamental biological questions. The candidate should have a PhD in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, a strong publication record and extensive expertise in in protein expression & purification and biochemical assays, while a background in yeast genetics or structural biology would be useful. Experience in the areas of DNA replication, cell cycle, DNA repair, the chromatin field, and the broader area of genome stability would be an advantage, but is not necessary.

By joining the group the candidate will not only work on high profile research projects, but will be also mentored in successful grant writing, networking and publishing. This will prepare the post holder to make the next career move.

Please apply by sending your CV including 2 references along with a cover letter, explaining your motivation and interest, to Christian Speck (chris.speck@imperial.ac.uk).
