The Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg offers the following position with Leipzig as job location and a preferred starting date of 1 September 2016:
Research Officer ‘Spatial and temporal network analyses for pollen ecology”
Part-time: 80%
The position is initially limited to three years. The salary will be determined up to pay grade 13 TV-L depending on the assigned tasks and personal qualifications.
The position is affiliated to the Spatial Interaction Ecology research group of Prof. Tiffany Knight, and the position will be located at iDiv in Leipzig, Germany. The candidate will also have the opportunity to work closely with Dr. Annabell Berger, a Computer Scientist with expertise in temporal network analyses and algorithm engineering.
Requirements/ expected profile:
University degree in computer science, physics or related field (Diploma/ M.Sc.)
Experience with network analysis, graph algorithms, programming in Java and/or C++
Fluent in English with excellent communication skills, basic knowledge of German is an asset but not required
Experience with algorithm engineering
Experience working with ecological data is preferred
Tasks/ job description:
Create temporal network analyses to examine phylogenetic structure and nestedness of plant-pollinator networks
Apply temporal network analyses to existing datasets and compare analyses with and without this new approach
Create network analyses that examine spatial and temporal structure into a single framework for plant-pollinator
networks
Apply spatio-temporal network analyses to existing datasets
Create simulation models that consider how changes in landscape structure, and phenologies of organisms
influence plant-pollinator networks
Participation in mentoring of interns, Bachelor and/or Master students
The possibility for further scientific training is given, including the independent research for the PhD project “Spatial
and temporal network analyses for pollen ecology”
