Undergrad or Master student
Research Program:
Plant Responses to Biotic and Abiotic Stress
Stress Research Group:
Plant immune responses to pathogen infection. Antimicrobial peptides for crop protection
Job description
The Center for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG) is looking for a Postgraduate Student to be part of the group working on Plant Immune Responses to Pathogen Infection.
CRAG is an independent research institution engaged in leading-edge basic and applied plant and farm animal sciences. CRAG is established as a Consortium of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and University of Barcelona (UB). The Center is located at the UAB campus, and currently hosts 200 members from across the world.
Research Programs at CRAG (from basic science to applied research using plant experimental model systems, crops and farm animals) make extensive use of genomic technologies and large sets of genetic and genomic data (http://biannualreport2012-2013.cragenomica.es/).
CRAG has a PhD Program for international students interested in the areas of plant biology and biotechnology, and plant and farm animal genomics and genetics (http://www.cragenomica.es/es/crag-phd-program).
Responsabilities
We are seeking for a predoctoral fellow to investigate at the molecular level how plants respond to pathogen infection. The aim of the Ph.D. project is to identify microRNAs (miRNAs) acting as regulators of gene expression in the rice immune system, focusing on miRNAs controlling metal transport (iron, manganese) and/or nutrient acquisition (phosphate). Studies in the model system of Arabidopsis might be also included. This work will be part of a project funded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (Biotechnology Program, ref BIO2015-67212-R).
Requirements
Educational Requirements: Candidates should have an University degree in Biology or Microbiology.
Required Skills: Working experience in microbiology and molecular biology, as well as in plant physiological responses to stress will be essential.
We offer
Contract duration: 1 year
Hours/week: Full time
Submission of applications
Interested candidates, please submit (all the documents are mandatory for the application):
Please submit all the application through CRAG website: http://www.cragenomica.es/jobs
CRAG is committed to the principles of the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers of the European Commission. All candidates will be considered qualified for the job without restrictions of gender, race, nationality or disability.
