Location: Nationwide (delivering presentations in Schools around the UK)
Contract type: Freelance, self-employed (sessional hours)
Salary: £175 per day of delivery, plus expenses
The Ri has recently launched a new outreach programme, Science in Schools<http://rigb.org/education/science-in-your-school>, bringing our popular demonstration shows into schools across the UK, accompanied by valuable Continuing Professional Development sessions for teachers. The shows give students, teachers and families a chance to see our specially trained presenters in action, delivering science shows inspired by the CHRISTMAS LECTURES. The shows are jam-packed with experiments, demonstrations and the odd explosion! Available across the UK, the programme brings shows and CPD into your school in a package, with the option to have an assembly show during the day or a community show in the evening.
About the role
We are looking for freelance science presenters to deliver our programme with us. Based around the UK, you'll be given full training and provided with the kit needed to deliver the shows and CPD. The outreach events include (but are not limited to): demonstration shows, two-hour workshops and teacher CPD. The Freelance Science Presenters are engaged on a self-employed basis and as such are responsible for their own tax and national insurance contributions. We anticipate that we will be able to provide approximately 1 booking per week during school term time, with weeks such as National Science Week likely multiple bookings in one week. However, the work is not guaranteed and candidates should not expect that this role can replace regular employment. Freelance Science Presenters will agree to commit to minimum number of bookings; however they are not obliged to accept every booking that is offered to them. Training (paid at the regular daily rate) and presentation materials will be provided.
