BACKGROUND
IUCN Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (ECARO) is seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic candidate to join the IUCN ECARO team as focal point for the IUCN Global Species Programme and the Species Survival Commission. The successful candidate will work in close cooperation with the IUCN ECARO Director and the IUCN Global Species Programme, and will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of species-related activities in Eastern Europe, North and Central Asia.
JOB DESCRIPTION
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversee the implementation of the species conservation component of the IUCN's Programme in Eastern Europe, North and Central Asia
• Coordinate the implementation of IUCN ECARO’s species project portfolio in the region
• Liaise with IUCN Members, Commissions and partners in identifying priorities in species conservation in the region
• Act as IUCN ECARO’s focal point for the IUCN Global Species Programme and the Species Survival Commission
• Help identify programme implementation and project development opportunities
SPECIFIC DUTIES
• Coordinate the implementation of IUCN ECARO’s species-related project portfolio in Eastern Europe, North and Central Asia, with particular emphasis on national Red List Development
• Support the organizational development and capacity building of partner organizations on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species
• Provide technical assistance to IUCN Members and partners in Eastern Europe, North and Central Asia on priority setting for species conservation
• Liaise with the IUCN Global Species Programme, IUCN Regional Offices, and the Species Survival Commission in providing support to the implementation of IUCN ECARO’s project portfolio
• Ensure timely and quality communication of IUCN ECARO’s species conservation activities
• Assist IUCN ECARO’s Director and Conservation Programme Coordinator in identifying partnership and project development opportunities
SALARY
The gross annual salary for this position is in the range from EUR 23.018 to EUR 27.590, subject to deductions for social security contributions and health insurance, and before tax.
REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a subject related to the field of environment
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in the field of species conservation
• Good knowledge of the Red List Categories and Criteria and regional and national Red List assessments
• Proven ability to work with multi-disciplinary groups, including governments, experts and civil society
• Capacity to work effectively under time pressure and extended hours if required and pre-approved by ECARO Director
• Willingness to travel within the region, sometimes at short notice
• Excellent command of English and other language spoken in the region
• Computer literacy in MS Office packages
• Excellent organizational and networking skills
• Team-oriented attitude and ability to work independently
