The Faculty of Sciences is one of five faculties at the University of
Adelaide. As the first university in Australia to grant degrees in
science (1882), science has long been at the cornerstone of the
institution and this continues today.
The School of Biological Sciences is one of four schools in the Faculty
of Sciences. Located at the University's North Terrace campus, the
school consists of approximately 600 people including research, teaching
and professional staff, and students in honours and research. The school
was formed in 2015 to coordinate and consolidate the University's
cutting edge and world-class research and teaching in Ecology &
Environmental Science; Genetics & Evolution; and Molecular & Cellular
Biology.
_Funding has been obtained from the Australian Research Council for a
multi-year project studying the effects of climate-driven range
extensions of tropical coral reef fishes on temperate Australian coastal
ecosystems. We are seeking a Research Associate with excellent
quantitative skills to analyse a long-term fish population dataset using
coupled niche-population models._
The project is a collaborative project between the University of
Adelaide, University of Technology Sydney, the University of the
Sunshine Coast, and Flinders University. The School of Biological
Sciences has strong expertise across the disciplines of marine ecology
and global change biology. Successful candidates will join a dynamic
group of students and academics working on climate change at the School
and interact significantly with the project’s chief investigators.
*Salary*: Level A; $83,307-$89,425 per annum.
*Superannuation*: An employer contribution of 9.5% applies
*Term of position*: This fixed-term contract is available February 2018
to December 2019
*Position requirements*
To be successful you should have:
1. A PhD with developed experience in numerical analysis and various
modelling techniques.
2. Demonstrated experience and proficiency in programing language, this
should at least include R, but familiarity with MatLab, Python, C or
similar is also preferred.
3. Demonstrated ability to publish in high-impact scientific journals,
and present research at international conferences. You should be fluent
in English, and have a range of scientific articles as first author in
high-impact journals (indexed in Web of Science).
4. Strong written and oral communication skills in English with the
ability to liaise, collaborate and interact with a wide range of
national and international scientific researchers.
5. Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
6. Demonstrated experience in ecological research, in particular related
to climate change and population dynamics.
7. Capacity to meet deadlines and complete manuscripts in a timely manner.
8. Ability to use initiative to solve problem in non-routine situations.
Additional desired criteria are:
9. A keen interest in marine ecology, climate ecology, species
biogeography and population dynamics.
10. Knowledge of Australian marine ecosystems and species.
