Job Description: (temporary position): WEST has an opening for a Biological Technician in Blythe, California. The primary duty is to conduct fatality monitoring at solar facilities. Applicants must have sufficient and demonstratable experience identifying birds and working in the southwest. A degree in biology and formal Ornithology class is preferred. Candidates with prior experience conducting fatality monitoring will be given preference. All applicants must receive approval from State and Federal agencies before starting work. Work requires bird identification skills, the ability to follow protocols, and clear data collection. The applicant must be able to perform walking and driving surveys in desert heat. Field conditions will be desert habitat where extreme temperatures regularly occur. Additional data entry tasks may be required. Must be able to work independently and interact positively with project managers, clients, site personnel, and other technicians. Depending upon skills of the applicant, position may include additional opportunities. Strong work effort is required. Work is typically 30-40 hours per week, overtime paid when applicable. The position begins on February 26, 2018 and continues through May 31, 2018 Compensation: $19-21/ per hour DOE Housing in Blythe, CA This is a general description of the functions for this position and is not inclusive of the duties which may be associated with this position. Qualifications Applicants will be required to provide personal field gear, including steel or composite-toe boots, clothing, water/food, and binoculars. Those applying MUST possess the following: • bird identification skills and/or other avian project experience o Demonstrate on resume • excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and flexibility in work location and schedule • ability to answer question and discuss collected data • willingness to take on additional tasks as needed Successful candidates must be able to pass a background check; a pre-employment drug screen; and a DMV records check that meets WEST’s minimum criteria to operate a motor vehicle on behalf of the company. A valid driver’s license will be required. Candidates must adhere to all health and safety requirements.
