Ocean Science Consulting (OSC) Limited seeks to expand its Dunbar-based UK team. Applications are invited for a full-time, marine biologist/oceanographer.
This is an industry scientist, not academic position. The role involves working primarily in OSC’s Research & Development (R&D) wing, although suitable candidates may also be considered for a combination of research/consultancy, and offshore duties. OSC is an international research and technology-focused marine science company involved principally in global supply of underwater noise measurement and modelling, marine mammal detection, and risk mitigation services. OSC reinvests > 80% of profits into Research & Development (R&D), orientated primarily towards high-level research on the harbour porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) and other marine life interactions with offshore installations, improving marine mammal and environmental monitoring standards worldwide, and underwater noise. This has resulted in several peer-reviewed publications (www.osc.co.uk/publications-and-press-covers) and a non-profit book entitled the Marine Mammal Observer and Passive Acoustic Monitoring Handbook (www.pelagicpublishing.com/the-marine-mammal-observer-and-passive-acoustic-monitoring-handbook.html.
OSC seeks a motivated and career-driven individual to become a valued member of this highly successful research team, responsible for data preparation and collection, performing analysis and literature reviews, preparation of clients’ confidential reports, and peer-reviewed papers.
Prior fieldwork experience is desired, not necessarily in the field of marine mammals; however, a genuine interest in marine mammals, and a willingness to learn are essential. Previous Marine Mammal Observer (MMO), and/or Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) qualifications are not necessary, but if form part of previous experience, facilitate possibility of offshore work in a range of sectors (www.osc.co.uk/sectors/). Do not apply if you are easily prone to seasickness or are unfit medically.
