Prácticas remuneradas en conservación en UK

Paid internship on protected area management effectiveness at WCMC (Cambridge UK)

Fixed term, full-time, £7.83 per hour

Closing date: 2018-04-15

We are looking for a conscientious and focused intern to join the Protected Areas Programme. This is a great opportunity for an undergraduate student to gain experience in reviewing assessments on the effectiveness of management on protected areas.

UN Environment World Conservation Monitoring Centre works with scientists and policy makers worldwide to place biodiversity at the heart of environment and development decision-making to enable enlightened choices for people and the planet.

The UNEP-WCMC Protected Areas Programme works to collate, maintain and improve the global knowledge base for protected areas information, notably through Protected Planet (powered by the World Database on Protected Areas; WDPA). The programme analyses the information to provide authoritative standards and indicators to track progress on Protected Areas’ coverage, effectiveness and representativeness, and it develops evidence based approaches and decision making tools for the long-term sustainability of Protected Areas, such as through the PARCC West Africa project (Protected Areas Resilient to Climate Change).

This internship will focus on reviewing assessments of the effectiveness of management on protected areas, in order to integrate them in two databases managed within WCMC, the Management Effectiveness Tracking Tool (METT) database and the Global Database on Protected Areas Management Effectiveness (GD-PAME). It will also focus on reviewing all the METT assessments, analyses of the database and the published literature to make recommendations for streamlining the tool into a more concise form, based on the core questions/themes of importance highlighted from the assessments’ review.

If you are interested in this exciting opportunity please send your CV and a short covering letter by clicking on the link below by 15th April 2018. Please note, no application form is required for this post.

The internship will be between 6-12 weeks.

Please note this is not a UN post and we can only accept applications from those eligible to work in the UK.
