Jacobs is currently seeking a full-time, permanent Junior/Intermediate Biologist, with a strong focus on wildlife, to join our team in Calgary. The successful candidate will be responsible for a combination of field work and technical writing, and while wildlife studies will comprise the majority of the work, the Biologist will also be required to support other biophysical disciplines as needed. Qualifications • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in biology, primarily related to wildlife, or equivalent demonstrated experience
• Professional designation, or potential to obtain a designation, with an organization such as the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists and/or the BC College of Applied Biology
• At least 3-6 years of relevant professional experience in environmental consulting, related to wildlife • Ability to lead wildlife-related field studies
• Willingness to work in the field in remote locations for extended periods of time
• A driver’s license and ability to provide a clean, 3 year driving abstract
Preferred Qualifications • Demonstrated knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation and regulatory requirements, primarily in western Canada
• Experience with biophysical baseline studies and monitoring programs
• Excellent technical writing skills and experience writing applications for activities that are provincially and/or federally regulated
• Strong time management skills, with the ability to simultaneously work on multiple tasks/projects and meet project deadlines
• Demonstrated commitment and accountability to providing quality products
• Positive attitude, self-motivated with strong initiative
• Excellent interpersonal skills, team-oriented, and suited to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Experience in support of other biophysical study areas such as wetlands, rare plants, weeds, and/or fisheries both during field assessments and with office tasks
• Familiarity with environmental assessments, cumulative effects assessment, habitat models, and spatial GIS analysis
• Ability to think strategically in developing novel approaches to wildlife management and mitigation
• Experience in client liaison and business development
• Familiarity with ecological land classification and wetland classification
• Preference will be given to candidates with valid First Aid and H2S certifications as well as additional safety tickets such as TDG, WHMIS, Pipeline Construction Safety Training (PCST) Jacobs is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
