Live-Stream: Nature-based Solutions - Launch of the IUCN Global Standard

We are seeing Nature-based Solutions communicated more and more in the news
and other spheres of communication. We wanted to bring to your attention an
event to build upon your understanding of this approach so that the scicomm
community can accurately and responsibly communicate research on this topic.

Nature-based Solutions are recognised by governments and the private sector
as a powerful ally to address societal challenges, such as water security,
climate change and disaster risk reduction. As the world turns towards
green recovery in a post-COVID context, we will need to ensure that nature
reaches its potential in contributing towards a just transition to a
sustainable future. With this in mind, and appreciating that the misuse and
misunderstanding of the approach could even harm nature and people, a
global framework is required to mainstream Nature-based Solutions while
protecting people and planet. After a two-year participatory consultation,
the largest and oldest environmental network, the International Union for
the Conservation of Nature (
https://www.iucn.org/theme/nature-based-solutions) , has developed the IUCN
Global Standard for Nature-based Solutions that will enable both the public
and private sectors to consistently and inclusively scale-up Nature-based
Solutions.

This July 23, we kick off the series of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) events
in the run up to the IUCN World Conservation Congress in January 2021, with
the launch of the first-ever Global Standard for NbS and a call for action.
