General Summary

The Social Media Intern works in a fast-paced environment and is able to work both independently and in teams to meet deadlines and accomplish tasks. This position reports to the Social Media Specialist and assists in executing Oceana’s social media strategy to support our campaigns, promote our brand awareness and further our fundraising goals.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

1. Draft and schedule content to be posted on Oceana’s key social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube with Oceana campaign updates, calls to action, fundraising efforts, and more.

2. Engage with social media follower engagements and comments across Oceana’s key social media platforms.

3. Support analyzing and reporting on Oceana’s social media impact across main platforms, including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

4. Participate in intra-department team effort to increase production of and effectiveness of video content.

Job Requirements

Education and work experience:

1. Pursuing a BA/BS OR recent grad in Marketing, Communication, Public Relations, or related field

2. Previous social media content creation experience a plus

Skills and knowledge:

1. Comfortable creating content for social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn

2. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)

3. Ability to multi-task and work in fast-paced environment

4. Excellent written communication skills

5. Familiarity with AP style

6. Experience with Engaging Networks a plus
