The European Geosciences Union (EGU) is seeking to appoint two interns to work with the EGU’s Media and Communications Team during spring 2021. The successful candidates will support the team in the lead-up to and throughout the virtual EGU General Assembly 2021 (19–30 April).
Responsibilities and activities will include:
Producing materials to promote the General Assembly and its virtual platform. This may take the form of blog posts, news items, instructional videos or gifs, graphics, webinars, and social media posts
Promoting daily highlights during the two-week event
Creating content for EGU’s social media platforms
Assisting with EGU’s mentoring and artist (not!) in-residence programmes
The ideal candidates will have:
Experience working in an academic environment, preferably in the Earth, planetary and space sciences or communications, including candidates who are currently studying or in the process of finalising their degrees
Expert command of English
Experience in a role requiring the clear communication of event details and/or scientific/technical information to a variety of audiences in a community-focused and engaging way
Experience using Instagram and/or Facebook
Ability to work effectively in an international environment and collaborate with people in a virtual setting
Ability to meet assigned deadlines
Candidates located within Germany will be preferred

Interview date and process:
Interviews will be conducted online in mid-February.
Each intern will be expected to work at least 20 hours per week and will ideally be available from early March through mid-May. The time commitment is negotiable and should be clearly stated in the letter of motivation. Both internship positions will be remote but will involve daily calls and communication with EGU staff members.
Remuneration for the interns will range between EUR 10 and EUR 17 gross per hour depending on their qualifications.
