The Department of Biological Sciences in the Faculty of Science at the University of Calgary invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the area of Eukaryotic Genetics , with a start date as early as July 1, 2021 or later. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track).
Qualified applicants may be conducting genetic research using molecular tools in plant, animal, or fungal systems, which may focus on whole organisms, cells or tissues. Suitable research areas include genomics, molecular cell biology, host-pathogen interactions, developmental biology, evolutionary biology, neurobiology or physiology. Applicants using live-cell imaging techniques and/or genome editing tools in their research are especially encouraged to apply.
The applicant is expected to establish a vibrant and internationally recognized research program in the broadly defined area of Eukaryotic Genetics, as well as provide excellent, innovative education for a large number of undergraduate and graduate students in Genetics. The successful candidate will assist in meeting the institutional goals outlined in the recently developed “Growth Through Focus” strategy and in the strategic research plan of the Faculty of Science. “Growth Through Focus" is built around three big ideas that will differentiate our entrepreneurial university and drive growth: transdisciplinary scholarship, integration with our community and future-focused delivery of programs that will see us expand the flexibility and customizability of the UCalgary experience. Candidates must possess a PhD or M.D. (or equivalent science degree) in a relevant discipline such as genetics, cellular biology or molecular biology, and relevant postdoctoral experience. Applicants must have a strong publication record demonstrating excellence in eukaryotic genetics. Prior success in obtaining peer-reviewed funding is an asset. Candidates should also demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning as evidenced by established successes and the use of contemporary approaches to teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in service, as appropriate.
