The Institute of Organismic and Molecular Evolution at the Faculty of Biology, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany invites applications for the position of a Lab Manager full-time (100 %)
This position supports the research group with a focus on evolution, behavior and ecology of social insects in research and teaching.
Your tasks:
- Further development, application and teaching of molecular biological, behavioral and chemical methods in the context of evolutionary biology research and teaching on ants and bees
- Support of scientific projects, including taking over of subprojects and help with the preparation of scientific manuscripts and research proposals (e.g. preparation of research results, budget calculation)
- Participation in international cooperation projects
- Laboratory management (ordering of laboratory supplies, care and maintenance of laboratory equipment, ensuring working hygiene in the laboratory)
- Preparation of teaching practicals and field trips
- Keeping and handling of social insects in the laboratory
- Completed vocational training as a biological-technical assistant or equivalent skills and extensive experience in research
- Very good knowledge of written and spoken English
- Very good knowledge of molecular biological and chemical techniques
- Good knowledge of the organization of a modern, methodically diverse laboratory of common MS-Office, statistical and citation programs scientific terminology and approaches
- Interest in research and working with social insects
- Ability and enthusiasm to work as part of an international team
- Ability to work independently and organize work effectively
- Development and transfer of new laboratory methods
- Participation in seminars and meetings of the working group
