The Department of Botany (Herbarium W) at the Natural History Museum Vienna, Austria, is looking for an additional team member.
Your tasks
The role is that of a Research Associate, specifically, a curator for the seed plants and fern collection. Knowledge of the Austrian and Neotropical flora, and knowing your way around an herbarium are a plus.
Your tasks
- Curation of the phanerogam section;
- Development, funding solicitation, and implementation of research projects;
- Participation in the presentation of botanical topics for the public;
- Scientific and popular science publications;
- Handling of external requests;
- Collections management (handling of loans, etc., pest management strategies);
- Databasing herbarium specimens;
- Supervision of preparators, project staff, and interns;
- Supporting visiting researchers;
- Collaboration with other NHM departments (e.g. Exhibition Management, Science Communication).
- Scientific expertise in the field of plant taxonomy, floristic knowledge, focus: Austria and/or the Neotropics; completed botany degree, PhD desired;
- Experience with herbarium work;
- Experience with databases and digitization of herbarium specimens;
- Experience with collections management;
- Experience with exhibition development and implementation desired;
- Ability to work in a team.
