Seabird fieldwork opportunity! The South Iceland Nature Research Centre (Náttúrustofa Suðurlands) are offering 2 paid field assistant positions (3 months) as well as volunteer positions (1 month minimum) for summer fieldwork with Iceland's nocturnal seabirds starting ASAP
They will assist in a population, diet & tracking programme focused on Leach's and European Storm-petrel and Manx Shearwater. Fieldwork will take place on uninhabited islands in the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago from mid-June to mid-September.
Workers will be required to locate burrows & retrieve birds to aid ringing, sampling & the deployment/retrieval of geologger devices. Working hours are primarily during daylight, except for trapping & mist-netting which occurs 22:30-04:00 (though with accordingly later starts).
Applicants are required to have outdoor experience, strength for physical work, good interpersonal skills, professionalism, and a willingness to work untraditional hours and take on a wide variety of tasks. Prior fieldwork and bird handling experience is preferred.
Food and accommodation will be provided (the latter at a nominal fee for paid positions) with salary to be determined between SINRC and the trade union for natural scientists
