Digital Experience Director
Coordinate public communications, social media campaigns and design for GSMI 2024. Manage a team to ensure communication of GSMI 2024 activities and recruitment is properly distributed to the Cientifico Latino community. We are looking for someone who has strong management skills and a vision for the potential of the Científico Latino platform. Seeking individuals with enthusiasm generating public engagement (through social media, newsletters, or if skills are transferable, in person). This is primarily a leadership and management role, but experience using platforms like Mailchimp, Adobe Illustrator and/or Canvaa, Later App, Wix or managing or creating video content (e.g., TikTok or Instagram reels) is a plus but not required. This position requires two rounds of interviews before an offer is made.
Stipend: $8000
Open Positions: 1
Responsibilities include:
Manage campaign for recruiting GSMI 2024 scholars -- advertise the GSMI 2024 program by contacting academic professors, summer program and PREP program directors
Manage campaign for publicizing Científico Latino to the greater community
Develop simple graphics for advertising material such as flyers to be shared across different social media platforms, and ability to communicate effectively with graphic designers for more sophisticated graphics when required
Develop social media campaigns for featuring Científico Latino resources, community members, and engaging with online following
Copywriting/editing text and provide feedback on design for webpages, graphics and public announcements
Delegate work to the Digital Experience Coordinators and communicate effectively with the GSMI Program Director
Time commitment: 3-5 hours/week from April 2024 – May 2025
Webinar Coordinator
Work with our Webinar Director to provide secondary support during our webinar sessions for GSMI 2024. We are looking for someone who has experience editing videos, has good public speaking skills, and is familiar with the Youtube and Zoom platforms.
Stipend: $1500
Open Positions: 1
Responsibilities include:
Must be the host for at least 40% of all webinars
Work with the GSMI 2024 Webinar Manager to ensure the GSMI webinar curriculum and invited speakers are on schedule
Lead technical support during the live webinar
Co-moderate during live webinars
Edit and upload webinar videos on YouTube
Monitor and address questions from attendees during live webinars
Serve as a back-up for the Webinar Manager
Time commitment: 2-5 hours/week from September 2024 – March 2025.
Content Creator (or Resource Creator)
Develop educational content on applying to graduate school that can complement existing GSMI material. We are looking with someone who can create new STEM content on applying to graduate school in the sciences, please share examples of previous science outreach content in the online application (e.g., written or video materials). Preference for those that have experience in non-biosciences.
Stipend: $500 per person (per semester)

Responsibilities include:
Examine list of feedback from previous GSMI classes on how to improve our educational material
Develop content for GSMI 2024 that can complement our existing graduate school preparation material
Work with the GSMI 2024 Director to share this resource to the GSMI 2024 scholars

Time commitment: 1-2 hours/week from May 2024 – December 2024.
Fellowship Reviewers (NSF-GRFP)
Assist a small group of GSMI 2024 scholars with their NSF-GRFP applications. Each reviewer will only be assigned a maximum of four students. We are looking for someone who has received or was an honorary awardee for the NSF-GRFP fellowship and has previously helped students with their NSF or other fellowship applications.
Stipend: $1000 per person
Open Positions: 3
Responsibilities include:
Assist 4 GSMI 2024 scholars with their NSF-GRFP application through the proposed time period
Participate in a panel session webinar on applying for the NSF-GRFP
Provide written and verbal feedback on the NSF-GRFP to assigned students
Meet with your assigned student at least once a month
Give at least 3 rounds of written revisions to the proposal and research statement
Report to the GSMI 2024 Digital Education Director
Time commitment: 4-5 hours/week from mid-August to mid-October 2024.
Personal Statement Reviewers
Assist GSMI 2024 scholars by providing feedback on their graduate school statements (personal statements, statement of purpose, research statement, diversity statement). Each reviewer will give feedback on a maximum of 25 statements during their time as a personal statement reviewer; You will only be assigned one statement at a time, after sending comments, the reviewer can assist further students. We are looking for someone who is at least a graduate student or has experience providing feedback on graduate school statements.
Stipend: $1000 per person

Responsibilities include:
Coordinate with the GSMI Digital Education Director so students can send you their written statements
Provide written feedback on the graduate school statements to the assigned students in a timely manner
Approximately examine ~25 applications
Feedback is meant to be general, each application we expect should take no more than an hour to review
Report to the GSMI 2024 Digital Education Director
Time commitment: 2-5 hours/week from September to November 2024.
Scholar Application Reviewer
Screen and provide written feedback on the GSMI 2024 applicant’s program application so the GSMI Director can assess the top 120 applicants who will move on to the next round of the interview process. Each reviewer will examine roughly 75 applications. We are looking for someone who is at least a graduate student and ideally has experience screening applications for mentorship programs. There are 2 open positions available for this work.
Stipend: $500 per person

Responsibilities include:
Provide feedback on a written rubric for selecting GSMI 2024 scholars
Examine ~100 GSMI scholar applications and provide written notes on their commitment to apply to graduate school, rationale for moving the applicant to the next stage of the interview process and be an engaged GSMI 2024 scholar
Work together with the GSMI Director to discuss the student’s application ensuring students are selected based on need and best fit to potential mentors
Time commitment: 4-5 hours/week in June 2024
Scholar Interviewers
This team will interview all prospective 120 scholars and provide feedback after their interview to the GSMI 2024 Director to select the 100 GSMI 2024 Scholars.
We are looking for someone who is at least a graduate student and ideally has experience interviewing applicants for graduate school or mentorship programs.
Stipend: $500 per person

Responsibilities include:
Making your schedule available to interview prospective scholars during the month of July
Use calendly to coordinate with students for interviews
Interview at most 25 prospective scholars for 30-minute interview sessions
Provide written feedback after each interview
Discuss with the GSMI 2024 Director as needed on written feedback
Time commitment: 2-3 hours/week in July 2024

Responsibilities may include the following:
Help to distribute Científico Latino resources throughout the greater community (beyond GSMI 2024)
Create and manage new ideas for public engagement (primarily through social media)
Coordinate with the Digital Experience Director on content that needs to be generated and posted
Time commitment: 1-2 hours/week per semester
