Yosemite Guide Service is a family owned and operated guide service providing sightseeing tours, day hikes, backpacking trips and other nature-based excursions in Yosemite National Park and surrounding areas. Our guided trips are private, customized outings focused on the natural environment of Yosemite and the surrounding Sierra Nevada mountains. Our primary goal is providing outstanding customer service by focusing on our guests’ needs and their safety, while creating relationships with both our natural world and with each other through our high quality, personalized, custom guided trips and tours.
Who we are looking for: A responsible, reliable, friendly, and easygoing person who loves the outdoors and interacting with people. Knowledge of natural communities, native flora & fauna, and the biota and ecosystems of the Sierra Nevada is very important. Accordingly, if this isn't your strong point - a keen interest in nature, ecology, history, geology, and a willingness to learn about our natural environment and the human history of Yosemite is required. We will provide training and guidance to perform the duties of a guide for sightseeing tours, day hikes and backpack trips, plus the information and facts you'll need to confidently lead tours in Yosemite.
Because of legal requirements regarding providing transportation for our guests, you must have a clean driving record and current driver’s license. This position also has responsibilities related to maintaining equipment and vehicles (including cleaning vehicles), attention to the care and safety of our guests, planning and confirming daily itineraries, assemble picnic lunches and snack bags for each trip, and keeping accurate records and data.
We are looking for a committed and trustworthy individual to start immediately and work into mid to late October. The desirable traits we look for in an individual is someone who is reliable, proactive, flexible, responsible, one who can anticipate and respond to changing situations in a calm, collected manner. You must be able to communicate effectively with people with many diverse attitudes, personalities, and perspectives, and a plus if you are patient and have the ability foster relationships with others utilizing kindness, compassion, and understanding.
Our position is currently seasonal and by nature is part-time and at times sporadic (2-4 days per week, sometimes the next day). The position can grow into a more involved and dedicated position in the future, depending on your desire, availability, and your demonstrated abilities and performance as a guide. Housing may be available for a reasonable cost or with trade for other potential duties or jobs.
