REDD+ Project Coordinator

The overall objective of the REDD+ Coordinator will be to support management in the continued development and implementation of the NCA REDD+ Project program by maintaining performance, planning, monitoring, reporting and community relations

  • Collaborate with the Fossey Fund DRC country director and department heads to implement the NCA REDD+ project as established by the Project Document (PD), Monitoring Work Plan, Simple Management Plan and Strategic Plan.
  • Coordinate with external technical and financial partners, consultants and implementation partners to achieve project objectives.
  • Develop and implement NCA REDD+ communication strategies to ensure local communities’ awareness of conservation messages and program activities.
  • As part of the Fossey Fund staff and in close collaboration with partners, prepare detailed work plans, budget and reports.
  • Assist in the REDD+ project staff recruiting process and ensure their training, capacity building and worker safety protocols meet the REDD+ requirements.
  • Supervise the coordination of socio economic activities links to the REDD+ project according to Terms of Reference signed between the Fossey fund and local communities including co-developed needs assessment and activity planning, as well as monitoring and reporting on these and updating the theory of change as needed.
  • Supervise local facilitators through development of annual and monthly work plans and filing of mission reports to country director and department heads.
  • In collaboration with the country director/ department heads and in agreement with the PD, develop, implement and report on annual monitoring plans, benefit sharing plans and adaptive management plans while respecting reporting deadlines, accountability and transparency.
  • Financial monitoring and control throughout the REDD+ program, reporting to the country director
  • Assist in the development of budgets and schedules to ensure the proper functioning of the REDD+ program. With the help of the country director and relevant department heads ensure that funds are not misused and are used to the best advantage and within the approved budget.
  • Ensure that the anti-corruption policy is followed diligently
  • Ensure that the grievance mechanism is used and that grievances are handled respectfully, in a timely manner and in accordance with policy, international best practices and the laws of the DRC
  • Collaborate with the Nkuba base manager and country director to promote excellent relationships with local landowners and communities surrounding the project area.
  • Ensure that the REDD+ program benefit sharing procedure is fully understood and correctly implemented
  • Day-to-day management and coordination of staff to ensure project needs are met and maintained at a high standard.
  • Ensure that the REDD+ program fulfills its obligations as described in the Project Document (PD) under the REDD+ project, and that all project elements meet objectives to be verified under CCBA and VCS standards.
  • Actively maintain, encourage and promote good working relationships with relevant external stakeholders and partners.
  • Prepare reports for and supervise annual or semi-annual field audits.
  • Assist and prepare for various visitors to the project site including facilitating community meetings with visitors and preparing relevant documents (project maps, list of clans, villages ect.) for visitors.
  • Assist with gathering communication materials (stories, photos, video) for publicizing the project.
