Soneva Foundation Coral Restoration is looking for interns for the Coral Restoration program based in Soneva Fushi, Baa atoll, Maldives.
Duration and Starting Date:
- 3 or 6 months (Preferably 6 months)
- Starting Mid-October to Mid-November
Responsabilities:
You will take part in the different coral restoration projects we developed on the island and gain experience in both in-situ and ex-situ techniques including:
• Large-scale Mineral Accretion Technology (MAT) Coral Nursery - population, maintenance and monitoring
• Coral relocations
• Coral outplanting - cementing and monitoring
• Coral spawning - in-situ and ex-situ gametes' collection, rearing and settlement in lab
• Microfragmentation - ex-situ lab recently installed in collaboration with David Vaughan
• Monitoring of existing restored sites
• Rope Nurseries and spider pods structures populating
• Coral predation research & culling
• Help the marine team with the snorkeling excursions (manta, turtle and housereef)

Qualifications
• Bsc or equivalent in Biology/Environmental/Marine Science or related
• Minimum of 50 dives and Advanced Open Water Diver (more dives and higher certification preferred)
• Ability to dive in difficult conditions and to be self reliant
• Experience in scientific/working dives if possible
• Good physical conditions - ability to carry heavy weights (30kg)
• Free diving skill is a plus
• Fluent in English
• Own dive gear (mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, BCD and dive computer) - some spare kit available in unique circumstances
