The University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (UKZN) in Durban South Africa is advertising a research professorship in marine science. This is a 5 year, fixed term post with the possibility of renewal.
Minimum requirements
* A PhD in the area of marine biology / biological oceanography
* An excellent and sustained record of publication of independent and impactful research in quality peer-reviewed scientific journals, as appropriate for the level
* Excellent and sustained track record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at Masters and PhD level, as appropriate for the level
* Excellent and sustained track record of successful attraction of external research grants
* Evidence of national and international recognition in a research area within the discipline
* Evidence of strong and sustained academic leadership within the Department/ School/College/University/Broa
A strong background in numerical skills and complex analyses of large data sets to address one or more of the following issues is desirable:
* Monitoring cumulative effects of multiple stressors on marine systems at large scales
* Impacts of global change on ocean productivity at different levels
* Advancing ecological understanding across spatial and temporal scales through synthesis and integration of data sets, especially in the face of global change
* Identifying general principles in complex systems
* Understanding the resilience and fragility of interlinked complex systems
* Improving predictability of future ecosystem condition
