1 Mission of the Department

The mission of the Practices is the attainment of WWF’s Global Goals and Outcomes through strategic and co-ordinated action of Communities of Practice across the Network. The Practice core team seeks to help provide strategic direction, co-ordinate internally and with external stakeholders, and support and empower WWF Offices to deliver at scale against the Practice outcomes.


2 Major Functions

Promote and establish a ‘learning organisation’ – that improves the problem solving capacity of the organization through better access to knowledge and expertise, strong coordination and faster cohesion.


Lead knowledge management (KM) and coordination in the Freshwater Practice for practitioners in the WWF network and the core team;


Lead the coordination of Freshwater KM with other Practices in WWF International and ensure timeous coordination in knowledge processes;


Organise frequent and structured interaction within and across Practices to ensure effective knowledge development, capture and transfer; sharing of lessons; identifying synergies and potential innovative solutions (close link to Deputy and Innovation function);


Identify, capture and share emerging trends (internal/external) and knowledge management support tools (AI, inter alia) - working with Practice Teams, Focal Points, Global and Regional Expertise and partners.


3 MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Build and maintain a ’virtual community of practice’ where people connect, share and learn knowledge – that drives a culture of continuous improvement – using online platforms, collaboration and communication tools. Develop processes and tools to effectively capture and share lessons from the ‘field’ – working closely with Focal Points & other Practice members. Map existing knowledge content/expertise and identify gaps – and develop a KM strategy to maintain up to date knowledge content and fill gaps where necessary.Deliver an effective on-going learning strategy - that ensures lessons are shared and learnt – through training, TED-like events on emerging topics/trends, external/internal speakers and mentoring or peer to peer arrangements.Support the Freshwater Practice through the migration to new Microsoft systems from Google to Microsoft (SharePoint) and the after-care.Coordinate KM for multiple partners when working with external consortia e.g. Freshwater ChallengeLead the application of best KM practice within collaborative initiatives lead by the Freshwater Practice, including the Freshwater Challenge.Additional duties and responsibilities as required by the Practice Leader.


4 PROFILE


Required Qualifications:University degree in relevant Freshwater Practice content areas or equivalent experience.Proven experience in harnessing knowledge/research and promoting conservation learning.Experience of working in an international environment, across time zones and with different language needs. (Familiarity with translation tools.)An understanding of the challenges of working in a global network and complex organisation.Prior experience of knowledge management practices, preferably that support global conservation strategies.A strong team player, with ability to communicate and influence at many levels including senior management.Passion for continuous learning and seeking out knowledge.Fluency in English - other language/s an asset.




Required Skills and Competencies:Diplomatic and approachable communication style, with the ability to cultivate enthusiasm and interest in subject matter and engage at all levels.Ability to facilitate group discussions/debates.Probing questioning skills, to push the limits of current thinking and spark debate.Demonstrate empathy and emotional intellect to engage with a broad variety of people and cultures and connect people.Experience with Microsoft and Sharepoint.Passion for conservation.Embraces the WWF mission and values to the organisation: Courage, Integrity, Respect & Collaboration.







V Working Relationships

Internal - Works very closely with the Practice Team Leader and particularly - Deputy Lead in their innovation role plus Policy Lead. Also Practice Core Team members, Initiative Leaders, Focal Points as well as all relevant Practice members.




Works closely with ‘cross-Practice’ KM Managers and cross-Practice members as well as other relevant support groups.




External – Creates and fosters close collaboration with relevant/leading institutions (academic, policy, economic etc.)
