Researcher with Expertise in Biodiversity and Nature Restoration

The biodiversity team at Ecologic Institute works on research projects at the German, European and global level focusing on nature conservation and ecosystem restoration in rural-urban landscapes. We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in relevant policy areas, with a particular focus on current policy developments at the EU and national level and a sound understanding of interlinkages with related topics such as land use, climate, water and urban planning. Familiarity with the new EU Nature Restoration Regulation and its financing instruments is an advantage. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team of highly motivated scientists promoting the topic of biodiversity and its mainstreaming into relevant policy areas.
Your tasks
Supporting projects for clients from Germany and the EU, including support in communication with project partners and clients
Supporting policy analyses, policy evaluation, literature reviews, interviews and data analysis.
Drafting reports, policy briefs and recommendations, guidelines, newsletters, customized materials, factsheets and other publications both in English and German.
Supporting the organization and implementation of project-related events and stakeholder engagement.
Representing Ecologic Institute at national and international events and meetings, including the presentation of projects and research results.
Supporting the acquisition of new research projects.
Your profile:
Relevant master's degree, e.g. in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Planning, Nature Conservation, Geoecology, Geography, Landscape/Urban Ecology or Environmental Management.
At least 1–2 years of relevant work experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of key threats to biodiversity, trends and interdependencies with other land uses and associated governance
and policy approaches.
A sound understanding of the challenges and opportunities - especially in the context of ecosystem protection and restoration, knowledge of different ecosystems.
Good data analysis skills are required, experience in analyzing geodata is an advantage.
Knowledge of German and European biodiversity policy (e.g. EU nature conservation directives, Natura 2000 network, EU and DE
biodiversity strategies, draft Nature Restoration law, Action Programme nature-based climate protection), knowledge of related funding instruments is a plus.
The ability to work both independently and in a team on several projects in parallel in a highly dynamic and international environment.
Enthusiasm for the topic and creative thinking in finding policy solutions that fit into the broader challenge of transitioning to a sustainable
society.
Very good written and oral language skills, as well as presentation skills in German and English. Other language skills are an advantage.
