The Edward Grey Institute announces a fully funded DPhil scholarship focusing on how individuals and populations respond to changing environments. This research opportunity, supervised by Prof. Ben Sheldon, is part of a major research program supported by UKRI and NERC.
Research Focus:
- Tri-trophic interaction between trees, primary consumers, and birds
- Woodland ecosystems under climate change
- Seasonal environments
- Multiple temporal and spatial scales
Methods and Resources:
- Remote sensing
- Field and lab experiments
- Genomic analysis
- Quantitative genetic approaches
- Access to Wytham Woods long-term population study
- Fleet of drones for phenology mapping
- Acoustic recording and monitoring infrastructure

- Start Date: 1 October 2025
- Duration: 3.5 years (possible extension to 4 years)
- Stipend: £19,237 (2024-25 rate)
- Research Expenses: Up to £5,000 per year
- Location: John Krebs Field Station and Wytham Woods
