Job Title: Rare Carnivore Monitoring Field Technician

Position Overview
Swan Valley Connections is seeking a Field Technician to conduct winter wildlife surveys focusing on rare carnivores, such as lynx and wolverine, in the Swan, Clearwater, and Blackfoot River Valleys. Technicians will utilize snowmobiles and snowshoes to conduct snow track surveys and install bait stations, documenting species presence and distribution.
This position requires working in remote locations, navigating rugged terrain, and enduring harsh winter conditions. Technicians must provide their own housing, meals, and appropriate winter clothing. SVC will provide necessary field equipment, including vehicles, snowmobiles, snowshoes, and helmets.
Responsibilities
- Conduct snow track surveys to document rare carnivore presence.
- Install and maintain bait stations for monitoring purposes.
- Use GPS devices for data collection.
- Work in pairs in remote areas with challenging winter conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- First Aid/CPR certification or higher.
- Snowmobile operation experience or certification.
- Trailer towing experience or certification.
- Avalanche awareness training or certification.
- Strong skills in GPS operation, navigation, and wildlife tracking.
- Clean driving record.
- Backcountry safety and risk management expertise.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
