Role Description
The Canadian Whale Institute is seeking a Whale Rescue Technician to join their established Campobello Whale Rescue Team. The selected candidate will:
- Respond to entangled whale reports following strict safety protocols
- Participate in marine operations and ongoing training
- Manage program data and administrative tasks
- Represent CWI at public events, trade shows, and presentations
- Engage in outreach with fishing and shipping industries
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 1 year experience working at sea and handling small boats
- Required certifications:
- Small Vessel Operator Proficiency Certificate (SVOP) or higher
- Domestic Vessel Safety or Marine Emergency Duties
- Marine Radio License Commercial (ROC-M)
- Marine First Aid
- Valid driver's license with clean record
- Valid passport and ability to travel through the United States
- Authorization to work in Canada
- Physical capability to:
- Work in harsh marine conditions (up to 50 nautical miles offshore)
- Lift or pull 50 lbs (22 kg) when needed
Highly Desired Skills
- Previous experience with large marine animals
- Digital photography and video
- Teaching and training experience
- Experience handling lines under strain and knot tying
- Excellent computing skills and record keeping
