Conservation Data Analyst

Main Description:
The BC Parks Foundation is seeking a Conservation Data Analyst to use geospatial technology and analytical tools to make a tangible impact on environmental conservation in BC. The role involves mapping, data management and analysis to support the Foundation's mission, BC Conservation Fund, and collaborative stewardship between First Nations, local communities, and government.
The BC Parks Foundation is the official charitable partner to one of the largest parks systems globally, managing over 1,040 parks with more than 26 million annual visits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify, update, integrate, and maintain databases for spatial terrestrial attributes and monitoring outcomes
- Maintain partnerships to source and update mapping data
- Conduct data quality assessments, cleaning, and metadata updates
- Perform spatial analysis to inform decision-making
- Create and update maps for program administration and communications
- Support grant applications with spatial data
- Implement data-aggregating and monitoring platforms
- Analyze monitoring and remote-sensing data
- Co-supervise student interns
- Lead relevant grant applications
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years experience in GIS, geospatial data analysis, or data visualization
- Minimum 2 years experience with spatial data management
- Diploma or undergraduate degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science or related field
- Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS)
- Strong skills in spatial and data visualization, remote sensing and landscape analyses
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
Desired Skills:
- Experience with field GIS equipment (GPS, drones)
- Programming skills (Python, R) for GIS automation
- Project management software experience
- Knowledge of Indigenous communities' issues
- Second language proficiency
- Experience in land conservation/trust work
