HU-RIZONT FELLOWSHIP IN BREEDING ECOLOGY & MIGRATION OF SHOREBIRDS
Location: Debrecen, Hungary (with fieldwork in Europe and Africa)

Contract Type: 3-year fellowship (initial 1-year contract with possibility of 2-year extension based on performance)
Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated and talented field biologist to join our team. The HU-RIZONT Fellow will play a crucial role in implementing field investigations of breeding and non-breeding shorebirds. We seek applicants with strong background in evolutionary biology, animal behaviour or ecology, and willingness to learn microbial ecology. The position is part of a collaborative project "The role of migratory birds in spreading antimicrobial resistance" funded by the Hungarian Research agency (HUN-REN) for 3 years.
Main Responsibilities:
- Carry out field investigations of breeding and non-breeding shorebirds
- Implement microbiological sampling protocols in the field
- Conduct data analyses and publish papers
- Coordinate field investigations across multiple sites in Europe and Africa
- Assist MSc and PhD students' research
- Contribute to postgraduate teaching (in English)
Requirements: Essential:
- PhD in animal ecology, behavioural ecology, population demography or related field
- Strong background in quantitative analyses
- Proficiency in R programming
- Extensive field experience
- Bird ringing and trapping experience
- Full driving license
- Fluent English
- Strong research track record appropriate to career stage
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable:
- Experience with biostatistics or demography
- Background in one or more: behavioural ecology, population ecology, field biology, wildlife conservation, disease ecology, microbiology
