RESEARCHER POSITION IN SUSTAINABLE AQUACULTURE
Location: CIIMAR – Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research, Matosinhos, Portugal

Contract Type: Full-time contract with undefined term, starting March 2025
Description: The selected candidate will join the EUAqua.Org project, aimed at boosting organic fish production in Europe. The research will focus on developing innovative solutions for organic farming of Atlantic salmon, European sea bass, gilthead sea bream, and rainbow trout. The work at CIIMAR will involve:
- Conducting bacterial challenge experiments
- Studying novel non-invasive biomarkers
- Analyzing fish behavior following infection
- Developing operational welfare indicators in disease outbreak contexts
Requirements: Essential:
- PhD in Biological Sciences, Animal Sciences, or related field
- Expertise in feeding fish with functional diets and bacterial challenges
- Autonomous in haematological, oxidative stress and immunological techniques
- Proficiency in molecular biology techniques and statistics
- Fluent in English (speaking and writing)
Preferred:
- Experience in animal welfare projects
- Background in aquaculture
- Knowledge of fish immunology
