 Location: Venice, Italy (on-site)

Organization: Veneto Institute of Molecular Medicine (VIMM)

Contract Type: 2-year full-time postdoctoral position

Main Description: The Muscle Physiology in health and disease lab led by Prof. Marco Sandri is looking for 1 post-doc position to join us. Our team is dedicated to the identification of signaling pathways that control protein breakdown and protein synthesis and particularly on the discovery and characterization of novel genes that are involved in autophagy-lysosome and ubiquitin-proteasome systems. Recently our laboratory has discovered the novel gene Mytho involved in autophagic pathway being important in promoting healthy ageing and being a crucial regulator of skeletal muscle integrity. Our research was published in 2 different high impact factor journals (Nat.Comm and JCI) and was a topic of interest for a TV documentary, national journals and politic institutions!

Project Description: For this position, YOU will be joining an ongoing project in the context of identify the consequences of MYTHO depletion in the whole organism (total KO) in order to mimic genetic disease condition in mice. The candidate will investigate the organs most affected and understanding whether there might be other functions of the protein that are still unknown. For example, is MYTHO involved in DNA damage repair? Is MYTHO contributing to a good mitochondria homeostasis? Is MYTHO involved in cancer? How is the metabolism affected? Your contribution will involve in vitro and in vivo experiments, with also a deeper investigation of the molecular mechanisms of this novel protein.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Biological/Medical Sciences, Molecular/Cellular Biology, Biochemistry or equivalent (motivated graduate students interested in a PhD program are also welcome to apply)
  • Trackable experience in mouse experimentation
  • Enthusiastic, creative, rigorous, collaborative, and autonomous mindset
