FIE, IEU and iGDP have jointly established the IE-iGDP Just Transition Observatory https://www.igdp.cn/. The Observatory is a hub for knowledge, policy development, and capacity building. It aims to facilitate the sharing of best practices, provide technical and strategic support to stakeholders, and promote collaborative approaches among governments, businesses, think tanks, communities, and civil society.
To this end, the JTO is looking for a person to join a full-time position in Madrid.
The transition to a low-carbon economy presents both challenges and opportunities across various sectors. Ensuring that this transition is just and inclusive requires robust policies, research, and implementation strategies. The Junior Manager will play a critical role in coordinating initiatives, managing research and engaging with stakeholders to advance the Just Transition and climate action agenda.
The candidate must have professional experience working with the climate change agenda, ideally from a global south perspective. Similarly, the candidate should be conversant with the just transition agenda, in both cases from an implementation or research level.
It is desirable to have worked at the international level, in economic sectors linked to the climate neutrality and climate resilience agenda, including mobility, industry, energy, finance or food production.
Your role as a Junior Manager will involve:
- Ensure efficient day-to-day Observatory activity, including administrative support and frequent reporting of ongoing activities.
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among project stakeholders by preparing and delivering regular project status reports.
- Develop event schedules, manage budgets, organize events, and oversee their execution to ensure they meet organizational standards and objectives.
- Develop comprehensive project plans that outline objectives, timelines, budgets, and resource requirements, track milestones, and adjust plans as necessary to ensure timely completion.
- Contribute to the planning and organization of cross-cutting projects.
- Collaborate with the IT Department to facilitate the management of the webpage, update contents, and include new information.
- Support team members with the supervision of task development by using task-management tools.
- Organize workshops, conferences, and events to disseminate research findings and promote dialogue.
- Support on the elaboration of reports, articles and media content related to the climate agenda.
- Engage with stakeholders, including governments, the private sector, academia, and civil society organizations, to foster collaboration.
- Elaboration of case studies on just transition strategies and policies at the country level.
- Identification of just transition indicators that have been proposed or used by countries, regions, businesses, or international organizations in the above sectors.
- Elaboration of presentations, briefings, reports and other materials linked to just transition implementation and financing.
To thrive in this role, you should have:
Professional experience:
- Master’s degree in Climate Change, Energy, Climate Change and Development, International Relations, Sustainability, Environmental policy, Economics, or a related field.
- Bachelor in Engineering, or social studies like International Relations, Sociology, Political Sciences, Economics, or a related field.
- Between 0-3 years of professional experience.
- Proficiency in English and Spanish is fundamental.
- Experience in an international environment.
Other knowledge:
Knowledge in the following subjects will be an asset:
- Strong understanding of Just Transition principles, climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies, and sustainable development frameworks.
- Statistical knowledge and use of data to assess policies.
- Social dialogue and community participation in sustainability matters.
- Familiarity with international climate policies, including the Paris Agreement and international sustainability frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- International working experience is desirable.
- Comfortable interacting with stakeholders and organizations of diverse backgrounds, including public and private sectors and stakeholders.
- Intellectual curiosity, open-minded and creative.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in teams.
- Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and use resources efficiently.
